My name is D'Jon Camell. I've been barbering for about 10 years now. I found my way into the barbering industry by accident — my wife actually suggested it after I'd become a personal trainer and gotten kind of bored with that. So it was a blessing in disguise. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, and here I am over a decade later, still loving it every time I walk into the shop.

I've worked at a handful of barbershops for sure — salons, barbershops, all different places — and I landed here at District about four years ago. I've learned a lot about myself. I've grown a lot, and I wouldn't have grown in those ways if I wasn't here. I really love the community we have, too. Because of the area we're in, a lot of people know each other. We'll have one person sitting in a chair, and somebody will know them from work, or church, or just eating at a restaurant. That communal setting here at District is something I personally really enjoy, and it keeps me coming back.

When it comes to haircuts, I really enjoy doing full scissor cuts. I enjoy everything about it — the sectioning, creating the shape. I enjoy mod cuts, modern mullets, old-school mullets, long haircuts, long flows — anything where I'm using full shears and styling. I love it. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my classic fades too. I love hitting those clippers and getting that bald fade up. There's nothing like that nice, smooth feeling when you get a slap on the back of the neck. Love it. But those full shear cuts, man — come see me.

I also do a lot of specialty work. I do a lot of color, I do hair replacements, and I do perms. For me, barbering isn't just about the clippers and the head. That's a big part of it, but it's about the full art — shears, clippers, styling, taking care of your skin, and creating a place where you're comfortable to walk in, sit down, and be yourself. Let loose a little bit, take your shoes off, as they say. That's what I look forward to, and that's what I like to build in the barbershop.
